Making fine Egyptian weaving and handmade soft furnishings accessible ......
Neith Textiles combines handmade soft furnishings with handwoven Egyptian textiles.
I learnt to sew as a child and enjoy designing and making soft furnishings for the home. I also have a passion for Egyptian weaving and I am pleased to be able to bring the tradition of hand woven Egyptian textiles to the UK. I will also ship worldwide from the UK.
I work alongside weavers who have been taught the skills of weaving by their mothers and grandmothers. They weave using a traditional wooden looms and incorporate traditional patterns into our scarves (ferkas), wraps, throws and rugs.
Ferkas are scarves or shawls woven by hand in Upper Egypt that were originally exported from Egypt to Sudan and the heart of Africa through long established caravan trade routes.
The partnership of traditional weaving techniques with modern textiles and designs allows us to produce high quality scarves and wraps. I also use some handwoven fabrics to hand make some soft furnishings.
All purchases of handwoven items help fund better education for women and children in a rural part of Upper Egypt, as well as helping to improve living standards and fund better social benefits.
Every attempt has been made to photograph our scarves to show the true colours. However, please note that the colours you see on your screen may not be an exact match for the actual colour of this scarf.
