I've enjoyed working with my hands for as long as I can remember; making things with wood since I sat in my father's workshop pounding nails into a 2x4 before I was old enough for school.
I've also always been passionate about rescuing a piece of wood before it gets to the landfill. Almost everything in my shop is made from wood that is on a second career. Sometimes that's a piece of fine old hardwood that just needs to be planed down to reveal amazing grain underneath. Or a humble piece of palette wood with a fascinating texture created by the saw kerf marks or the passage of time. A project usually begins with me looking at a piece of wood and thinking about what would be the best way to show off it's unique qualities.
I use traditional joinery methods -- such as tongue and groove, and mortise and tenon construction -- not because they are the easiest, but because they are the most reliable and durable ways of assembling a project. I also favor simple, non-toxic finishes, because they show off the natural beauty of the wood and don't poison the environment.
My favorite project is a custom order. Many times customers send me a photo or a drawing and say, "can you make something like this?" Often times I can, at a very reasonable cost, and in a short amount of time. I am committed to your complete satisfaction so if something doesn't meet your expectations, I will do whatever I can to put a smile on your face.
