Handcrafted Greeting Cards - When the card is the gift!
Hi - come on in! My name is Theresa - nice to meet you! Every card I sell is carefully handmade by me in my studio in Memphis, Tennessee. My shop Nineteen Things is truly a labor of love, springing from a lifelong affinity for written correspondence on fine writing papers with good pens.
When I was a child (long before email, cellphones, Facebook and texting) I corresponded by mail with a beloved aunt who lived half a continent away in California. Week after week, year after year we traded thank you notes, birthday cards and yes, actual letters detailing what was going on in our lives at the moment: an upcoming vacation, a birthday, a family wedding, the acquisition of a pet, Christmas, school. For more than a decade the milestones of our everyday lives were fossilized in ink, on paper. Years later when I graduated from college her gift to me was a beautifully decorated box containing every letter, card and thank you note I had ever sent her, neatly categorized by year and tied up in pretty ribbons. I was speechless! This wonderful, loving gift had been patiently amassed over decades of sharing our lives on paper, one stamp at a time. She had cherished my letters enough to save them for 15 years and then gift them back to me. As I was just about to embark upon my adult life, she had given me back a piece of my past. I cherish those letters and wish I had kept her letters to me!
Fast forward many years and it's still a thrill to open the mailbox and see a handwritten envelope instead of bills and junk mail. With Nineteen Things I hope to create beautiful, keepsake cards that will delight your recipient as my Aunt Carolyn's letters always delighted me.
