The creation of nō world began in the year of 2014. The shop was formerly known as Wabi Sabi, the name of which I accepted custom commissions and attended craft fairs to share my handmade crochet originals, stickers, and art prints. With the evolution of my work, it was only fitting to rebrand into nō world art in 2019.

In many ways my art practice is influenced by my experience growing up in my home town, a melting pot where different cultural walks of life converge and try to make a living in this historic, yet ever modernizing, island we call home. I learned to crochet from my Tūtū (grandma) at a young age, we would sit in the living room while she sat on her recliner and whipped up extravagant doilies and table covers with ease. I remember struggling to make simple chains, frustrated with how boring they looked and wanting to progress, she would warn that if I wanted to learn more I had to start here first. Steady, even, and relaxed chains of yarn. I eventually started adopting sketchbooks, with traditional and digital art being a lot quicker than yarn I quickly fell in love with visual art. Years later, after her passing, I revisited crochet and developed my craft, learning how to create original patterns that you may see in the shop today.

Nō is a Hawaiian word meaning “To leak, ooze, seep, and sink.” I was always creating as a form of entertainment and expression, and believed that creativity ‘leaked’ into life whenever it was needed, sinking into the footprints of our life. My hope is that you see parts of yourself or the world around you in my products, and even more so that it beacons the message that each person has a story to share.

Although in 2023 this shop is currently closed, Tracie plans to make a return when the time is right.
