I've purchased from Debra's shop before, so I knew her work would be beautiful, but this lovely little ornament exceeded my expectations! The photos truly don't do this piece justice - it is perfectly gorgeous! If you order from Debra, I'm sure you will be just as pleased as I am. (Her shipping was super-quick, too. My order arrived in an amazingly short period of time.)

North To Alaska Designs is a wonderful shop to deal with! Her communication is great and her products are wonderful. Each piece that I have bought from her has had complete attention to detail and is a beautiful work of Art. This Beadwork Dealer Trump Marker is quite stunning! My husband will love it!

I love the looks of this Christmas Tree Ornament. It could pass for a piece of Coral just lifted from the Ocean. This woman has immense talent!

From house to sailboat - stained glass to beads.

Born and raised in Ketchikan, Alaska, my life took me to other parts of the lower 48 - New Hampshire, Delaware, Arkansas, but... when my husband and I entered the empty nest phase, we realized we could do anything we wanted!

We always wanted to return to Alaska, so when he was offered a full time position, we closed up the house, bought a boat, and moved aboard.

Anyone that has done stained glass work knows that it can eat up a lot of area and really needs its own dedicated space - space that is not available even on a 54' sailboat. So I packed up the glass, lead, solder & tools, sold them all, and started looking around for a new creative outlet.

My sister was venturing into bead embroidery about then, and I started experimenting. I do a little bead embroidery, but tend to launch off into peyote weaving. Not the loom weaving, but the free hand work done mostly with Japanese Delicas. I love the little uniform beads that work so well in nice neat grid patterns.

It didn't take me long to realize I didn't want to color, erase, color, then start over to make my paper patterns and pretty soon I discovered a bead design program that let me design, chose and change colors, change size or any other element I wished. I stay in control of the pattern, but more or less work on an electronic graph paper that saves me all kinds of time and frustration!

My husband loves the beadwork, not because he has an eye for color or design, but because it keeps me from talking too much while he tries to watch the news or a movie! I get bored just sitting there and that is when the problems begin.
I might even say it is possible that beadwork has saved our marriage!

In the end, I sell a few things here and there, but my goal is not fame & fortune - I simply have a bead hobby that is running amuck! It is not a medium that works up quickly, so it is entirely unrealistic to think in terms of reasonable compensation, and I see many folks become frustrated trying to make more out of it that I believe is possible.

I'm not interested in trying to figure out how to crank more projects out faster, how to cut corners or in creating that kind of pressure just to crush the pleasure I get from making something beautiful.

I have another full time job that contributes to our livelihood and fortunately, I enjoy that work also, but I keep the two separate.

I want everyone who shops here to come away completely pleased with their purchase and the service they received. I try to include photos and complete descriptions of each item. While my photography skills are somewhat limited, at least the happy surprise is that the real item always looks nicer than the one in the photo!
