My Name is Emily and I'm a string addict.
Yes I have to admit it, I'm addicted to string. Not just any string mind you, my string needs to live in the here and now with form and color that projects an essence of nostalgia. My craft as a crocheter has come a long way since I first learned to crochet from my grandmother. So watch out, this isn't my grandmother's crochet any longer.
I've always liked working with thread. The more complicated the pattern the happier I was. There is a kind of peace of mind that you find when you're counting stitches, but over time that wasn't enough. The doily patterns that I made weren't really relevant to the changing styles at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st. So I started exploring other forms thread crocheting. First came variations on other kinds of doilies like table runners and table clothes, then I found other forms of crochet like filet, bruges lace, irish crochet and overlay crochet. Somewhere along the way I also taught myself how to knit and dye my own thread to suit my own needs.
In the end what you see before you is me and my own sense of style. I make what I like. I combine techniques, form and texture to make things that I love. Hopefully you'll love them too.
So for now at least if you happen to drop by you'll find me in the high desert of Southern California surrounded by my thread, yarn, and dyes. Please don't mind the mess, pull up a chair, have a glass of tea and let's talk about string.
