In de krochten van mijn oude garage, gewapend met een ouderwetse schoppenschijf, begon ik aan de kunst van het pottenbakken, waarbij ik mijn spieren bij elke draai aan het werk zette. Mijn vertrouwde oven van Theseus, die al talloze keren was opgeknapt, bleef trouw draaien om mijn creaties tot leven te brengen.
Naarmate mijn vaardigheden groeiden, zocht ik een meer praktische aanpak en verving ik de schoppenschijf door een elektrische Shimpo-schijf. De spinnen die ooit door de garage zwierven, verdwenen in een vage herinnering, terwijl ik troost vond in een nieuwe studioruimte. Met elke stap vooruit verbeterde ik mijn apparatuur en mijn ruimte, nu een comfortabele, gezellige studio in het bos, met een kleine tuin en ruimte om zowel mijn pottenbakken als mijn ambacht te verkennen. (Ik heb een paar heksenneigingen!)
In deze getransformeerde ruimte heeft Obscuria gebloeid en is gegroeid. Mijn sculpturen evolueerden tot unieke keramische woonaccessoires, elk stuk draagt een stukje van mijn creatieve geest in zich. Mokken, kommen en kandelaars kregen vorm, geïnspireerd door folklore, magische tradities, hekserij, de mysterieuze schoonheid van de bosbodem en de betoverende aantrekkingskracht van de duistere academische wereld. En laten we de grillige octopus niet vergeten, een wezen dat door mijn verbeelding zwom en zijn magie aan mijn werk toevoegde. Obscuria Made is opgericht om het alledaagse magisch te maken. We maken mokken en woonaccessoires voor heksen en fantasyliefhebbers, die kunst en functie combineren. Van mokken met boekenkasten waarop al je favoriete spullen staan tot sculpturen en mokken geïnspireerd op je favoriete verhalen of folklore. Van ringen van paddenstoelenfeeën tot hobbitdeuren en skelethanden.
Ik maak ook mokken en ketels waarmee je intentie en magie in je dagelijkse routine kunt integreren. Door kristallen in je mokken te verwerken en ze te versieren met begrip en praktijk van kleurenmagie, Vedische astrologie en symboliek, help ik je deze elementen in je leven te brengen. Ik maak praktische artikelen voor heksen, zoals flesjes met toverdranken en kruiden om je eigen apotheek te bouwen, wierookbranders en kandelaars, altaarschalen en schalen met spreukkaarsen om je altaar veilig en schoon te houden. Ik doordrenk mijn eigen praktijk in de items die ik maak en vul ze met liefde, creativiteit en positieve energie.
Vandaag de dag staat Obscuria Made symbool voor mijn passie en groei. Van die stoffige garage naar mijn kleine, knusse studio, de reis gaat verder. Ik nodig je uit om de buitengewone creaties te ontdekken die voortkomen uit deze nuchtere oase. Stap binnen in een wereld waar kunst zich verweeft met de fascinerende hoeken van onze verbeelding, waar duisternis haar schoonheid vindt en waar elk stuk een uniek verhaal vertelt.
In the depths of my old garage, armed with a vintage kick wheel, I embarked on the art of pottery-making, putting my muscles to work with each spin. My trusted Kiln of Theseus, patched up numerous times, faithfully fired up to bring my creations to life.
As my skills grew, I sought a more practical approach and replaced the kick wheel with an electric Shimpo wheel. The spiders that once roamed the garage became distant memories as I found solace in a new studio space. With each step forward, I upgraded my equipment and my space now a comfortable, cosy studio in the woods, with a little garden and space to explore both my pottery and craft. (I have a few witchy tendencies!)
Within this transformed space, Obscuria has thrived and grown. My sculptures evolved into unique ceramic homeware, each piece bearing a part of my creative spirit. Mugs, bowls, and candle holders took form, drawing inspiration from folklore, magical traditions, witchcraft, the mysterious beauty of the forest floor, and the captivating allure of dark academia. And let's not forget the whimsical octopus, a creature that swam through my imagination, adding its magic to my work. Obscuria Made was created to make the everyday magical. Making mugs and homeware for witches and fantasy lovers that is art and function together. From mugs with bookcases on housing all your favourite things to sculptures and mugs inspired by your favourite stories or folklore tales. From Mushroom Fae rings to hobbit doors and skeleton hands.
I also create mugs and cauldrons for you to embed intention and magic into your everyday routines. By incorporating crystals into your mugs and decorating them with the understanding and practice of colour magic, Vedic astrology, and symbolism, I help you bring these elements into your life. I create practical items for witches, including potion and herb bottles for building your own apothecary, incense burners and candle holders, altar bowls, and spell candle bowls to keep your altar safe and clean. I imbue my own practice into the items I make, filling them with love, creativity and positive energy.
