L'aventure OffGrid Devices a commencé par un coup de fil tard dans la nuit. Un ami m'a parlé de Meshtastic, et à la fin de cet appel, j'avais déjà commandé deux nœuds. J'étais conquis, non seulement par la technologie, mais aussi par la communauté. Des gens se connectaient chaque semaine, observaient le réseau se développer et exploraient les possibilités de la communication hors réseau. J'étais totalement convaincu.

L'idée de ce boîtier m'est venue d'un constat simple : j'oubliais systématiquement mon routeur Wi-Fi à la maison quand je promenais mon chien. Par contre, je n'oubliais jamais mon téléphone, et mon portefeuille MagSafe était toujours dessus. C'est comme ça que l'idée a germé. Pourquoi ne pas avoir un routeur Wi-Fi toujours à portée de main, fixé directement sur son téléphone ?

J'ai commencé à concevoir le premier prototype le jour de Thanksgiving. S'en sont suivis des mois d'itérations : des nuits blanches, des impressions ratées à 4 h du matin et une recherche obsessionnelle des aimants parfaits. On ne trouve pas d'aimants compatibles MagSafe sur Amazon. J'ai travaillé avec plusieurs fournisseurs, testé d'innombrables combinaisons, jusqu'à trouver des aimants comparables, et souvent plus puissants, que les accessoires MagSafe officiels. C'est tout à fait intentionnel.

Chaque boîtier est conçu, imprimé et testé par mes soins. J'inclus un petit mot manuscrit dans chaque colis, car acheter un objet que j'ai fabriqué de A à Z mérite un remerciement personnel.

OffGrid Devices started with a late-night phone call. A friend told me about Meshtastic, and by the end of that call I'd already ordered two nodes. I was hooked — not just on the tech, but on the community. People checking in weekly, watching the mesh grow, exploring what off-grid communication could be. I was all in.

The idea for the enclosure came from something simple: I kept forgetting my node at home when I'd take my dog out for a walk. But I never forgot my phone — and my MagSafe wallet was always on it. That was the spark. Why not have a node that's always with you, snapped right to your phone?

I started designing the first prototype on Thanksgiving. What followed was months of iteration — late nights, failed prints at 4am, and an obsessive search for the right magnets. MagSafe-compatible magnets aren't something you can just order off Amazon. I worked through multiple suppliers, tested countless combinations, until I found ones that are comparable — and in many cases stronger — than official MagSafe accessories. That's completely intentional.

Every enclosure is designed, printed, and tested by me. I include a handwritten note in every package because if you're buying something I built from scratch, that deserves a personal thank you.
