Why the name "Ola Jane Patterns"?
Why the name "Ola Jane Patterns"?
Simple answer. My grandmother's name was Ola Jane. This shop was formerly named Foot Loose & Fancy Free but over the years I realized that I wanted a short and simple name that was easy to remember and type. Also, Foot Loose & Fancy Free was widely used on the internet. ( Some of which was distasteful to say the least).
Slowly I will be changing all the format of the patterns over to the Ola Jane Logo. I also have created another store called Olly Jack Patterns. It will have only boy patterns.
I really wanted to design simple and easy to sew basic sewing patterns. Fancy ruffles and frills are OK for some but I wanted my designs to be comfortable on the children and also to be fuss free for the mom.
I started my shop in May 2009 in the earlier days of Etsy. I was totally amazed at the growth of Etsy in their weather reports.
I have sewn since the age of 8 and designed my own patterns and crafts. When my daughter, Lacy and I ran across some things we liked on Etsy we shared them by email. We were looking at the popularity of aprons and a brain storm hit that I should be able to make patterns of some of my designs. I did not even know what Microsoft Powerpoint or Adobe Reader was at that time. Lacy showed me how to draw using my computer programs and how to make a PDF. Now, I use more programs like Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and more. Believe me she is the most patient person in the world to deal with me.
Etsy has brought me to a whole new level of design and accomplishments. I have so many design ideas spinning around in my head that it is always hard to decide which one to work on next.
Thanks for looking at my patterns and hopefully purchasing one today.
