Applying the paint is a painstaking and detailed process. A magnifying light is standard equipment in my studio!
Applying the first layer of blue to the lake. To create deep, vibrant color I apply the paint in several layers.
Applying rich earth tones to the surrounding landscape.

The story of Old Root Studio

I am a professional hand colorist with over 17 years of experience working with antiquarian book and print dealers, private collectors and fine art galleries. My portfolio of hand colored work includes antique botanical and natural history prints, book illustrations, and historical prints. And now I’ve opened Old Root Studio and added reprinted hand painted maps to my repertoire. Each map is printed on archival heavy weight rag matte paper, then painstakingly hand painted with museum quality watercolor to reflect the character or period of the location. All hand painted maps can customized with a color palette to suit your desire and decor as well.

When I'm not indulging my love of maps and art, I enjoy spending time with my husband, fifteen year old son, and four cats. We migrated from south Minneapolis several years ago and now live on our own slice of heaven in the beautiful Taylors Falls area of east central Minnesota.
