Art to create
Hello, my name is Ramune Toleikyte, a designer and the founder behind Onstail eco-conscious felt slippers and bags.
To be able to create art has been and continues to be a very important part of my life. Since I was a child I spent a lot of time searching and creating in order to understand the ancient crafts. Today, I am very grateful to my dearest grandmother, Danute, (she was a dress maker) for the knowledge I gained. I loved to watch her sketching and pattern cut straight on to the fabric. All of her designs were bespoke and inspired me to follow the same path of textiles and design…. “Thank you Gran”.
I have always been very interested in learning something new and this is probably why I decided to join Academy of Art in Telsiai, later the Vilnius Academy of Arts in Lithuania which lead me to become a professional fashion designer in 2003.
Felt changed my life in general. When I first saw felt and the products that could be made from it I fell in love with the technics and wanted to know more. I started learning and experimenting with different wool felting technics, I really loved the results, fascinated by the different shapes that can be made without any stitching. It was an eye-opener and it still impresses me today.
Felting is one of the oldest textile manufacturing techniques known to man, put that together with one of the most eco-friendly, organic, readily degradable substances on earth, wool, and you have Onstail.
I’ve always cared about our planet and the environment we live in. I was never interested in fast fashion just because I love to make things right… and to make things right takes time, love and energy.
Life is time and I’m happy to spend my time making wonderful designs and if I’m happy my customers are happy too, so let’s share our happiness in doing something good for each other.
Be a part of our family, be eco-conscious in wearing felt.
My message to the world:
“The goodness started in you, do something good every single day and you will change the world”
