I prefer a quiet life that is deeply rooted in the wildness of mountains, forests, rivers, and the beauty of the seasons. I try to communicate that calm, natural and simple beauty into everything I make.

In July 2014 I was caught in a catastrophic forest fire in S. Central Oregon. We were cut off from escape as the fire closed in on our off-grid, very remote cabin and woodshop. I gathered my dogs and ran through the woods as the fire chased me to reach a pond on some neighbors property. I hunkered down in it with their 12 year old son as the raging inferno blazed over and around us.

I have realized the power of our natural world and how precarious our existence actually is. I am much more grateful for our lives and more intimately aware of the tenuousness of our time on Earth.

That appreciation now informs my work in a tender, organic and almost visceral way.
