E Komo Mai! Welcome to my store!
Everything you see here is designed and handmade by me right here in Kailua Kona, located on the island of Hawaii in the state of Hawaii.
It all started because I wanted an origami representation of my happy-go-lucky corgi dog with the correct proportions, and one that could assume different poses. Most importantly, I wanted one that showed her happy-go-lucky character and personality. Much as I searched, I could not find instructions for that particular origami dog. There began my foray into origami design. I chose the name Origami Dog because that is where it all began for me -- with an origami dog.
Origami design is math and engineering and art. My pieces are folded from hand-dyed tear resistant, water-resistant archival grade polyethyliene that can last for generations. Hidden wires and glue help my creations hold their form.
Many of my subjects are animal forms — some real, some mythical, some fantastical. My style tends towards happy and whimsical. I aim to create more than just representational objects but pieces with enough character and personality to tell a story and engage an audience. I think of it as bringing paper to life.
In 2025, I discovered Amigurumi, which is a style of crocheting in spirals to create stuffed yarn creatures or plushies. I think of it as weaving a strand of yarn into a 3-dimensional shape with character and a story to tell. I think of it as bringing yarn to life.
Notice any thematic similarities? I like creating stuff. I am a apparently a glutton for intricate projects. If you have any questions about any of my work, or are thinking about a special project, please don't hesitate to reach out.
