Jewelry designer's journey
I remember when I was in primary school, I used to collect flowers in my spare time to make earrings, necklaces and bracelets. As I grew up and started buying and collecting jewellery from my pocket money, I would value it like my most valuable collection. I knew I had a good eye for fashion and style although I did some impulse buying, only to realise later that some pieces of jewellery are not suitable for any occasion. I would try some hacks to make it wearable by interchanging some of the elements just by opening the jump ring with the help of my dad’s tools; attach the dangly part of the earring to an ear wire or just remove the dangles to leave it as a simple stud earring.
I slowly started improving my skills and reducing the dud projects which made me useful to my friends, who could trust me to help them with similar projects. I was lucky to find a jewellery making, evening hobby course in our local college. I became a confident craftsman as it taught me basic skills required for jewellery making, I started experimenting with the raw material already lying around in the craft boxes. After lots of trial and error, some pieces of jewellery were worth gifting to friends and family members who gave me a lot of encouragement and appreciated the handmade jewellery. I picked up the necessary skills like wire wrapping, sea-glass setting, bending the wire to achieve dainty shapes by watching videos and reading the blogs and improved upon my craftsmanship.
When I had lot more jewellery made and ran out of members to gift it to, my cousin gave me an idea to open an online shop which needed a few more other skills like photography, design description, marketing, customer relations, etc. So here I am.
I take the inspiration from Boho style as I love the freedom of designing with the earthy, natural colours, using semi-precious gemstones, recycled beach glass, etc.
