From my Mom's Fabric Scraps to 18 Years of Handmade Magic
My love for sewing started long before PICKLEBUG ever existed.
As a little girl, I would collect the fabric scraps left over from my mom’s sewing projects and turn them into tiny dresses and creations for my dolls. I loved taking a piece of fabric and imagining what it could become. I had no idea then that those little scraps would eventually lead to a business of my own.
I opened my Etsy shop 18 years ago while raising my family as a stay-at-home and work-at-home mom of six. What began as a creative outlet grew into something far bigger than I ever expected. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of creating special pieces for families all over the world and building a shop with a 5-star rating and thousands of wonderful reviews from my customers.
A few years ago, health issues required me to step away and close the shop. It was a difficult decision, but sometimes life asks us to put things aside for a season.
Now, PICKLEBUG is beginning a new chapter.
We are reopening as a family business, bringing together the same attention to detail and quality that built our shop years ago with helping hands from the people I love most. We’re excited to once again create pieces that become part of birthdays, photographs, celebrations, dress-up days, and childhood memories.
One thing that has never changed is our belief that a tutu should be made to last.
Our tutus are SEWN, not simply tied onto an elastic waistband. Each tutu is individually constructed in our studio, so the tulle stays securely in place through twirling, playing, celebrating, and being worn again and again. It takes more time to make them this way, but we believe the difference is worth it.
We’re just as particular about the materials we use. We do not use inexpensive polyester tulle. Our tutus are made with 100% nylon tulle made in the USA. Nylon tulle has the beautiful body and bounce that gives our tutus their extraordinary fluffy, full shape—and helps them keep that shape.
After 18 years on Etsy, we know that the little details matter. We’re incredibly proud of the 5-star reputation and excellent customer reviews we’ve earned over the years, and we’re committed to carrying that same standard into this new chapter.
From a little girl gathering her mom’s fabric scraps to a mom of six building a business around her family, sewing and creating have been part of my story for most of my life.
