About

Art to escape the doldrums of daily life

I've been arting all my life. It's part of who and what I am.

When I paint or draw, I do it for two main reasons. To improve my skill, and to escape the normal 10:30-9 reality of life as a customer service representative. When I draw a map, for example, it allows me to explore other places and other times in the freedom of my imagination. Someday, I hope to do more of what I love and less of what I must, which is a concept I think we can all relate to.

I primarily paint with watercolors and acrylics. I use 140 lb or better cold rolled watercolor paper, and acrylic paintings are either on canvas panels or stretched canvases. The listings will indicate which. I really enjoy white taklon brushes for my acrylic paintings, the precision and snap is a joy to behold. My favorite watercolor brushes are from the Sapphire line, they are great fun.

My pen and ink work is either on Bristol board or on Bee marker paper, and I favor the Sakura Pigma line of manga markers for my line work. White vinyl erasers are my go-to eraser. I will also work in fountain pen at times. When I use graphite it's either a Sakura technical pencil or it's woodless graphite.

I recently upgraded my studio space into a small, cinder block walled bedroom rather than simply a corner of my apartment. Oddly, I usually still do most of my art in the living room anyway! Whether it's making art or adjusting it digitally, I have to dodge my curious calico. She wants to be an art cat and ably supervises everything I do.

My inspiration comes from my role playing sessions, walks along the tree lined streets of my neighborhood, and the strange flights of fancy that happen during daily life. I aspire towards greater precision and realism. Someday, my dream is to write more books, draw more coloring books, and expand so I have more cards and prints to sell. I would like to make more of my living doing art. I also like to support my fellow artists, locally or online.

All items in my shop are made or collected by me, unless they are vintage. Then they are selected by me, piece by piece.

I paint, draw, read, make maps, build worlds, and do whatever my calico tells me to. My passion is the Desert Southwest, aviation, history, sci fi and art. My cards and art are from originals hand-drawn by me. I hope you enjoy my store!
