My story starts with my title, "Part 2 Designs". When I turned 50 years old I started to think about the goals I had for my life. I was lucky to know early on that I wanted to be a special education teacher. I pursued that dream and have been teaching for 30 years. Over that time I also achieved my goal of getting married and raising a family. So there I was at the age of 50 realizing that I had achieved all my goals. It was time to set some new ones!
Part 2 refers to what I consider to be the 2nd part of my life (that's right, I plan to live to 100). I've always had a creative side and back in college I minored in art and explored many genres. From photography to clay, to fiber and painting. My passion has always been working with fabric and other textiles. I also love playing with paint. While raising my 4 children I sewed practical things for my home and also made quilts for family and friends. So I decided that for "part 2" of my life I would explore my creative side.
I decided to learn to make art quilts. This lead me to working with different types of fabric, painting fabric, and embellishing fabric. Though I loved my art quilts, I had a desire to make something more practical than a wall hanging. Something I could share with friends and family. I started making totes, then pouches and purses. First, with fabrics I was familiar with, then I started experimenting with a variety of materials. My bags are made with cotton, canvas, linen, cork, waxed canvas, wool, paper fabric, vinyl, and sometimes leather. This is how "Part 2 Designs" was born.
