Welcome to Peach Rose Studio!
My name is Ashley Landon, and I’m an artist, designer, and jewelry maker in Rochester, New York. I’m currently creating jewelry using marquetry techniques. Marquetry is the centuries old technique of inlaying shapes cut from multiple different thin materials (usually wood veneer) into each other to create a decorative pattern, traditionally applied to the surfaces of ornate furniture. I’ve scaled this process way way down in order to make wearable pieces that are colorful, interesting, and extraordinarily lightweight.
I use wood veneer from many different species of natural hardwoods, as well as a full rainbow of colorful dyed veneer, to create my designs. I utilize a laser cutter to enable me to make extremely small scale designs that are very difficult to cut by hand in such a delicate material. Once cut, I very carefully assemble the pieces into their final design using tweezers and needles (unconventional tool choice in a woodworking studio, but hey, they work!) It’s a tedious process, and I couldn’t love it more. I occasionally do some freeform woodcarving as a form of meditation as well.
My pieces are inspired by my personal interests and favorite things, which include: nature, insects, kitschy vintage things, traditional crafts, mid-century design and more!
A great way to see what I’m up to and get a behind the scenes look into what I’m working on is to follow me on instagram at @peachrosestudio
A little more about my background…
My educational background is in Industrial Design, and it was at the Pratt Institute of Brooklyn that I first had the opportunity to venture into the world of woodworking when I landed myself a job in the woodshop on campus. My boss quickly became my mentor and dear friend, teaching me everything I know about wood and instilling a lifelong love of the material within me (you should check out Rainy’s shop, BentwoodBrooklyn!)
My concentration in school was furniture design, and my experiments in wooden jewelry were the side effect of saving all of the small scraps of my furniture projects, and wanting to find a use for them. I began selling my jewelry and other small wooden objects I would make on the streets of Manhattan on the weekends in 2009. After graduating in 2011, I started this tiny business, and the rest is history!

5 out of 5 starsI love these earrings. They are so well made and unique. I first found out about Ashley and her shop when I saw some of her pieces she had made for a Bride, during a wedding I attended. I immediately fell in love with her style and craftsmanship and have been an admirer of her work ever since. I'm so happy to finally own a piece of her work! Thank you so much!

5 out of 5 starsI really liked the item. The product itself as in the photo except for the chain. I asked for a special length, so the chain turned out to be different. But I'm very happy with the purchase.

Frequently asked questions
How do I care for my wooden jewelry?
Caring for wooden jewelry is easy! The most important thing is to avoid exposing it to excessive moisture- please remove your wooden jewelry before bathing or swimming, and store it in a dry place (not in the bathroom). If it does get wet, simply dry it as quickly as possible and let it dry completely prior to storing it.
These pieces may be thin and light, but they are exceptionally strong and only likely to break if snapped intentionally :)
While the sterling silver earwires can tarnish over time, it takes only a few seconds to bring them back to their original shine with a polishing cloth, which are widely available online and in most jewelry stores.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions!
What if I'm unhappy with my purchase?
While I generally don't accept returns, if you are unhappy with any of your items please contact me as soon as possible. Your satisfaction is my primary goal, and I will gladly rectify the situation on an individual basis. I appreciate the opportunity to make things right before you leave a review :)
Why does your jewelry look so different than the pieces in your most recent reviews?
Happy to explain! My jewelry making journey has taken many different paths over the past 13+ years that I've been doing this professionally. That journey included metalwork for several years, so you can see those pieces in both my reviews and in places like my instagram. I've chosen to leave those pieces visible, as they're an important part of my history as an artist. In the past year I have happily returned to my roots in woodworking, and having the opportunity to explore the material in a new (to me) way has been very exciting, and I look forward to pushing myself to continue improving my skills and designs. I appreciate your interest!
How the heck do you cut such tiny pieces of wood?
While I can and have done marquetry with hand tools like a coping saw and x-acto knife, I now employ a laser cutter to help me with this step! Not only can it cut much smaller and more delicate shapes than I'm able to cut by hand, but it allows me to sell my work at MUCH more accessible prices. There's so many more steps involved in the creation of these pieces, but having some technical assistance with the making of the components really makes the entire process possible!
