Paper, peanuts and platypus feet.
Whenever I've felt a sense of malaise over the years, I've turned to two main outlets- paper and platypus feet. As a mom of 3, collaging children's art has given me a sense of accomplishment in the midst of what can, at times, feel like a monotonous cycle of making food, eating food and cleaning up food, in all its various forms. Don't get me wrong. My children are my supreme purpose and passion for this season of life, but it feels good to know that the art I originally designed for them can also delight the bright eyes of other little girls and boys around the world.
If this doesn't do the trick, then my husband simply reminds me to look at their feet. Our firstborn has strong, wide little feet that always remind me of the appendage of the duck-billed platypus for which he is so famous. There is something so precious and adorable about a little one's tootsies. The way they slap the floor with each chubby step as they plod around the house, the way they come running with an unstable cadence when they haven't seen you for an hour, the way they clamber up your body for a hug and steal an irreplaceable place in your heart.
So this shop is for all the little Peanuts and all the little Buttons out there, that make the world more delightful with their uproarious laughter and blubby little feet. May this art inspire them and enrapture them and cause them to know their inestimable value. And because no child should ever feel scared, unloved or violated, we give 10% of our profits to the non-profit organization LOVE146, who are making profound strides towards the abolition of child trafficking and exploitation.
May God bless you, your family and all the little platypus feet you love.
