It's magnificent. The iridescence of the butterfly isn't diminished at all by the resin that makes it a viable piece of jewelry. So many thanks to the seller for working with me to get it here so quickly!

ABOUT BUTTERFLIES

Have you ever been to one of the butterfly houses in the where a real butterfly might sit on you? These places do not have their own breeding programs and generally cannot raise their own butterflies.

They have contracts with butterfly farms - many small, family-owned farms are in in the Amazon jungles. A family will physically net off a section of the rainforest. Perhaps an acre, or more, or less. They go out into the jungle and collect butterfly eggs off the back of the leaves of trees and plants. They bring these into their enclosure and take care of them.

They feed them their favorite diet, and protect them from diseases and predators. This tends to result in a much larger than natural butterfly kindergarten. Once the caterpillars wrap themselves into coccoons, the workers will collect some, wrap them up very carefully, and ship them off to the butterfly houses by a courier such as Fedex.

The rest of the caterpillars turn into butterflies inside the farm, and start the process all over again - portion of these are released back into the jungle, while the rest stay inside the farm and lay eggs there. In numerous studies it has been reported that the process of butterfly farming leads to increases in wild butterfly populations,

Did you know that the average lifespan of a butterfly is less than 20 days?

We get our deceased butterflies through US insect brokers. This industry is tightly controlled by the Fish and Wildlife service, to ensure that only non endangered and healthy specimen are imported into the US. Therefore the butterflies used in our jewelry are "end of life" butterflies - those that have completed their natural life cycle on the farms.

ABOUT OUR PROCESS

Real butterfly wings and pressed flowers encased in crystal-clear, glass-hard jeweler's grade resin. Over the years, we have developed a proprietary process of multiple resin coatings, resulting in a shiny piece that is lightweight, yet feels substantial when you handle it. This is NOT laminated jewelry - you may have seen that before.

For the process, I first excise the wings only. Multiple coats of resin are applied. You will note from the photos that the butterfly piece is reversible - because of the way they camouflage themselves in nature, they look different from the other side (when they close their wings on landing).

One of the photos includes one reversed wing. Note that the photo showing the reverse iin a listing may be a pendant, not an earring. Instructions on how to reverse the earring on the wire to wear it the other way are included with your purchase, as well as an artist postcard and and small "Butterfly Guide" that explains to the receipient about the process of butterfly farming.

You will not receive the exact piece pictured, but rather another of the same species butterfly from our stock. The size of butterflies will vary slightly from one to another – they are not manufactured, but rather nature made. If you have specific size related requirements, please convo me first to avoid disappointment.

I like to include a photo of the whole butterfly in the listings for your interest only. We do not ship the whole butterfly as pictured (unless the listing is for a whole butterfly pendant), but rather the jewelry item made out of it, as shown and/or worn by the model (one of my daughters). Each pair is slightly different from another, but the pair themselves (earrings) are always a match, coming from the same butterfly.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

I often get messages from people asking me to make pieces from a keepsake pressed flower they might have found in grandma's bible, or a butterfly found in their back yard.

I turn such requests down. There is a fair amount of "spoilage" during my process. Resin casting is more an art than science, and things do go haywire. I take those risks with my stock items, but I would never dare to do that with someone's precious memories.

The only exception is if, let's say, you have an amazing cherry tree in the back yard (real story!), and you want earrings made out of it. Then I will work with you, time permitting, to get you to press a whole bunch of the blossoms and send them to me. I would keep the rest to do with as I see fit :-)

Care instructions

Jewelry should always be the last thing you put on. Avoid spraying hairspray and perfume onto jewelry. IEven though are pieces are sealed, I recommend taking jewelry off before bed and swimming or bathing. Our resin contains UV protectants against fading. But, solar radiation that causes fading is relentless. Did you know that house builders don't warranty siding color, and car manufactures don't warranty car paint either, for this very reason? Always store any things you treasure out of direct sunlight.

Wholesale availability

Yes! Most of my business is wholesale. I am currently carried in over 250 locations in USA and some abroad as well. Gift shops, museum stores, airport stores, various boutiques. See our Etsy wholesale marketplace, or visit our website www.petalconnection.com for more information.

Returns and exchanges

I want you to be happy with your purchase. If an error is made on my part I will make it right.

Sometimes with gifts it's hard to know if the receipient will love it. I totally get that, and encourage you to tell the person they can exchange the item with me directly if they'd rather have something smaller/larger, different color, etc.
In such cases, return shipping and the cost of shipping the new item will be at buyer's expense.
I must be notified of any issues in reasonable time (within 5 days of receiving the item), and the item returned for exchange must be in new and resaleable condition.

I DO NOT ACCEPT UNAUTHORIZED (also known as "FORCED") RETURNS. THEY WILL BE RETURNED TO SENDER.

About our real flower jewelry

When we’re pressing flowers, we usually end up pressing several hundred blooms (or leaves). The best way we have found for this is good old fashioned phone books. Stack them on top of each other, weigh them down, and then forget about them for several weeks. Once we start pulling the now dried flowers out, it can be hard to stay positive – sometimes only couple on each page work, for a very small percentage over all. We are very picky with our quality control.

Coupon codes and discounts

Coupon codes may not be shared and are meant for the recipient only.

There are apps and plugins that will automatically search history of other shoppers and will automatically add a coupon to your shopping cart. If the coupon is currently valid for another customer or another promotion, we are unable to prevent this.

In such a case, we would consider this an unauthorized use of the coupon or discount.

Please note that if you don't qualify for that coupon or discount, we reserve the right to send you a request to pay back the amount of the coupon. We also reserve the right to refund your order and cancel, if we cannot reach a satisfactory resolution.

Coupon codes cannot be applied to orders after they are placed.

Restocking Fee

I reserve the right to charge a restocking fee of 20% for approved returns. This is to account for the inspection, re-packaging and findings (earring wires) replacement to return the item back to re-saleable condition.

ALSO SEE "RETURNS" section for more information about returns.

Unauthorized returns

All returns need to be pre-approved via a convo first. I do not accept unauthorized (forced) returns. Any returns not expected will be marked "return to sender" and rejected.
