From dream to reality - realistic backdrops for people who don't like backdrops.
Photographers Jeremy and Hillary, after living many years overseas, noticed that there were some really artistic and realistic uses of costumes and photography backdrops that were seldom seen in the American mainstream. For so long backdrops have been thought of only as components of cheesy photography done in poor taste, but in other countries, when combined with other thematic elements and great lighting, backdrops can be made to look like “on location” shoots or as if you had constructed an elaborate real life set. Jeremy and Hillary began trying these elements in their own photography studio, and very quickly they knew that these were such great artistic tools that they HAD to be offered to the masses, thus Photo Pie was born. Since 2010 our niche has been realistic PRINTED backdrops, and we feel like we have done our job well when others look at your shots and ask “Where did you go to find that cool location?” without even realizing that you’d used a backdrop. Often their first question is followed up with another question as they lean in to inspect the picture closer: “THAT’S a backdrop?!” One thing that helps this happen is the fact that we offer much more than printed fabric; we offer a host of tutorials, videos, amazing customer interaction, and more to help your backdrops really come to life.
Since opening we have expanded to a few more products, most recently solid dyed backdrops. We feel like these are studio classics and very artistically tasteful when done well, and therefore a great fit in with our tagline: “Backdrops for people who don’t like backdrops.” What we mean is, although there are a lot of places out there where you could buy dated, cheesy, unrealistic, painted, or other styles of sub-par backdrops, at Photo Pie we strive to give you a selection of backdrop tools that can truly differentiate your studio from your competitors... in a good way!
