Welcome to Pine Designs, home of original southern long leaf pine needle baskets.

The Seminole Indians were one of the first to make baskets out of pine needles during the Pre-Columbian era. This craft had almost been lost but is now being carried on by local fiber artists who want to preserve and promote this history.

The process starts by gathering pine needles in the Florida panhandle and then stitching coils of needles around a decorative base. Every basket is carefully crafted, taking between 25 to 80+ hours to complete depending on the size and creativity of the stitching and design. Each piece is an original, one-of-a-kind work of art.
