A Creative Life
Growing up in a creative family I have always loved doing and making things with my hands. Drawing, building and 'making' with siblings holds a special place in my heart. Learning the art of Ukrainian Pysanky from my father, making them was a tradition we looked forward to every Easter. That art form teaches how to be precise, exact and detailed, something my father, an automobile draftsman, was very good at. With love, I carry on his name, Plasko Design, with my own work.
I’ve had a 40+ year career in the performing arts field as a dancer, performer, choreographer and dance educator in public education, a Dance for Parkinson's teacher, BeMoved Dance® Instructor, as well as being an ERYT - Experienced Registered Yoga Instructor.
Curious creative exploration is a through-line in all of my endeavors. I love being a ‘student’, trying and learning new things.
I began sewing as a teen trying my hand at making my own clothing, gaining skills from persistence and experience. As a young professional dancer/choreographer, designing and making costumes for performance developed into making costumes for other dance professionals, dance companies and university dance departments, something I continue to do today. I love sewing, creating patterns, figuring out how to change or alter something. It has occupied center stage for much of my hand made work. My love for beautiful textiles bloomed when traveling in Scandinavia. The use of minimalist bold pattern and color inspired me to source authentic Scandinavian textiles to create home décor items.
Jewelry design stepped out of the wings later in life but has become another important voice in my creative conversation.
As an artist, I appreciate clean minimalist design, understated elegance, beautiful materials, functionality and fine craftsmanship and strive to bring these traits to my work.
