Updates

Hey folks! Here's something new from Polyester & Trash! The Trapeziod Bag is here. It's the perfect size for all your essentials and features a cross body strap and magnetic closure. I'll be making more to replace the ones I already sold, so stay tuned!
And then sometimes you upcycle a vintage tie and realize the store that sold it decades ago is still in business. So naturally, you send them a link to your Etsy listing and they love it and tell you that your are very creative. How cool is that?
I just finished this upcycled messenger bag that features a vintage red and blue towel on the front flap and a Jean Claude Vidal necktie for the strap. I almost kept this one!

About

What can you do when your fabric collection begins taking over your house? Open an Etsy shop!

I’ve always hoarded vintage sewing supplies and have spent years honing my scavenging skills. When I discovered that I possessed more supplies than I could ever use, I decided to open an Etsy shop and start selling my wares to the masses.
My shop, Polyester & Trash, features items made from vintage fabric (mostly polyester knit), salvaged feed sacks and ugly neckties from the 1960s and 1970s. Small details are incorporated into each item such as sewing the original tie label to the strap, detailed stitching in contrasting thread colors and carefully planning the fabrics used for each bag so that the finished product has the aesthetic I’m going for: slightly tacky, yet charming.
The materials used in my shop are the result of frequenting thrift stores, yard sales and estate sales. I like to get in the zone and sift through endless piles of secondhand merchandise for hours. Diverting materials from a one-way trip to the landfill is a common practice of mine as well. By using what others no longer need or want, I can create eco-conscious products while giving forgotten fabric and cast-off materials a second life. Why buy new stuff when there’s an abundance of supplies that have been concealed in closets for decades or are simply going to end up in the city dump?
Follow the link below to check out my Facebook page that features the occasional coupon or hop over to the blog to learn more about the production process and how I source my materials. Thanks again for stopping by!

Returns and exchanges
I try my best to run a 5-star operation and I want you to buy with confidence so you will leave me 5-star review (wink wink). I consider myself to be a reasonable person, so feel free to shoot me a convo and we can chat about any problems you are experiencing.

If your items arrives at your doorstep and is damaged, please contact me immediately and send a photo of the damage so I can go to the post office and give them some guff.

I will accept returns if you ship the item back to me in its original condition within 15 days. You would be responsible for return shipping costs.

I hate to break this to you, but refunds cannot be given on custom orders because I made it special for you.
Payment
I try to make it easy for people to do business with me, so I accept several different payment options. Please refer to the different icons above.

Unfortunately, the state of Michigan requires me to charge sales tax on items sold within Michigan. So that's a bummer, but hey, maybe they will put that money toward our crumbling infrastructure. Fingers crossed!

You may cancel any non-custom order before I ship it off, but I'm warning you now, I ship very quickly; often in the same day.
Shipping
I ship fast. Like next business day fast. I will provide each customer with a tracking number so you can watch your package flow through the postal system.

International orders: I ship at the actual shipping rate to anywhere on the planet that I can print a label for. I usually don't have any problems shipping across the globe and you should get your package in a timely manner.

But now for the serious stuff:

I cannot be held responsible for any customs snafu since I am merely an Etsy shop owner and not a customs agent. Sometimes, customs may hold your package for an indeterminate amount of time, which I don't really understand. They also tend to be real snoops and open packages to inspect the contents. You are also responsible for any customs or import taxes. I think that about covers it.
