How PomParty Came To Be
I love color. I have been a quilter for years and my favorite part of the process is picking out the fabrics. I love being surprised by how different colors and patterns blend to create a work of art. I’ve found the same joy in creating unique and beautiful tissue paper pom arrangements. I started my business with money I had saved from making quilts. I placed an order for 35 reams of different colors of tissue paper. I splurged and purchased the best available, Premium Satinwrap, knowing that this would make the best poms.
It was an exciting day when my order finally arrived. I was like a kid in a candy shop. Thirty five gorgeous colors for me to play with! After a few days of making poms, I was so pleased with the results. They were full and fluffed out beautifully. The colors were vibrant and the variety of colors made mixing and matching a delight! Then another idea popped into my head. (I love how the creative process spurs a new idea and then that idea inspires another and so on and so on….) And at this moment, the thought was “What if I dyed the tissue paper? What kind of effect would I get?”
I had some experience dying small bits of fabric for my quilts and wasn’t sure how I’d apply this to tissue paper. I certainly couldn’t dry the tissue in the dryer like I did my fabric. And soggy layers of tissue paper can be pretty delicate. It took some time, many days actually, to experiment and refine but I was able to create a dye process that was very successful. The way each tissue takes the different colors of dye is unique and amazing. Some of the tissues absorb the dye in a way that looks like marble. And all of the poms resemble gorgeous blooms from a flower garden. They look great alone or grouped together with solid color poms. Up for sale are my best results and I am continually adding new arrangements. I'm so excited to share these beauties with you.
