Don't you hate it when you lose ONE earring of a pair you love...
I do. And over the years I lost ONE earring of several pairs I loved. Exasperated with myself, I wondered if I could just make a replacement. Little did I know, when I googled "green glass square bead" I'd be bombarded with endless hues, sizes, shapes, and textures.
The alchemy of glass has fascinated me since my parents took our family to the Corning Glass Works when I was about nine years old. Turning sand into something as beautiful as glass seemed magical.
In 2015 trying to remake that lost earring, I fell down the rabbit hole of glass beads and haven't found the bottom yet. Two years later, I ran out of people to give my creations to but couldn't stop making stuff. In 2019, after an "involuntary early retirement," I figured I'd better start trying to recoup some of the costs sucked up by my obsession. Then the pandemic hit, and well, instead of learning to make sourdough bread...
I admit, I'm a snob about quality materials. I use only Czech glass and other high-quality glass beads from around the world; Swarovski crystal and pearls; semiprecious stones; and sterling silver or silver-plated clasps, earwires, and other findings.
