Laser Cut Science & Nature Inspired Jewellery from the UK
Hello!
My name is Katy and I design & make laser cut jewellery from my home studio ( aka spare bedroom!).
I graduated from the University of Essex in Southend-on-Sea in 2011 with a degree in Interior Design. After Uni I spent a few years designing furniture for a high end bathroom company, before deciding I needed to find something more dynamic with greater creative opportunities. I worked for a while designing laser cut miniature scenery for table top games - from which my love for all things laser cut was born!
I bought my first little laser cutter in the Summer of 2015 and started designing items that would work as worn pieces in different types of wood. I love nature & space and wanted to create pieces that reflected the beauty of our planet, as well as items that portray the wonder of the universe of which we're a tiny part. My husband is a massive space geek and artist (check out his blog @spaceoncanvas) and he has helped provide me with inspiration for lots of my space and science jewellery. I turned some of his doodles into different planet designs, as well as the earth logo. The name Pretty Little Earth even comes from one of his paintings!
All of my jewellery is cut from FSC certified solid hardwoods, which I then sand by hand to a high finish & coat with natural mineral oil, bringing out the beautiful colour and tone of the grain in each piece.
