These hand-woven bags, called Kiondos, are made of sisal and yarn in the remote village of Ngomano, in Southeast Kenya. They traditionally are made by mothers to give as wedding gifts to their daughters. With their bold colors and intricate patterns, each Kiondos is unique and signed inside by its maker. When you buy a Kiondos, you are giving back in two ways. First, you help this subsistence farming community buy food during its prolonged 8 year drought. Second, you raise money for a local free co-ed school in the village, the Clay International Secondary School.
