Origin of Project Inkubus
It all started in 2002, more precisely, on September 7th, my 20th birthday.
A beautiful sunny day where I was already imagining the party that my friends had prepared to celebrate the event. But what to do with the rest of my day ? I decided to go for a walk to clear my head. Suddenly, I heard the sound of metal clashing. A crystalline sound, like tuning forks creating a melody. Looking for the source of this noise, I found myself in a clearing in front of twenty or more people dressed in medieval garb and brandishing forged swords. I approached to speak with who, I knew later, was the drill sergeant. He explained to me that he was doing medieval reenactment and that for beginners, he was teaching them the form of courteous combat. A style of training which was established by an emperor whose name I forget, to avoid that the nobles kill each other in duels, which happened too frequently, in order to preserve the nobility. After a few passes of arms, something important caught my attention, and it was the "aouch !", "ouie !" and "ayoye !" of the participants at my side. A thought then came to me : it is not because the goal of courteous combat is not to touch your opponent, by demonstrating your technique and the mastery of your weapon by stopping at an inch from your opponent to count a point, that accidents do not happen! And that's when I noticed with horror that no one was wearing protection. Being very attached to my extremities, I tried to find a way to protect them. An hour later, I was browsing the local thrift stores and for the first time, I came across a roll of thick leather and rivets. The following week, I simply put on a pair of armbands and leggings of my own making and without any preamble, I started to exercise, proud as a rooster. Less than a minute had passed when the crowd of students who were already there began to ask me : "Where did you get those ?", and "Is it possible to get them for us ? To which I replied, with a very big smile : "I know someone. This was the beginning, of what is now the center of my universe, a need and a passion.
This has resulted in my two favorite mantras which are "looking good is important, protecting yourself is just as important" and "when art meets protection."
