La idea del Proyecto Kalaa surgió mientras diseñábamos nuestra primera casa juntos. Originarios de Nueva Delhi, siempre hemos tenido un profundo aprecio por la artesanía y la importancia cultural del arte tradicional. Inspirados por este amor por el patrimonio, decidimos traer reflejos atemporales de la cultura india a nuestra actual ciudad natal, Vancouver, y a ustedes.
Todas nuestras piezas son recuperadas y cuidadosamente seleccionadas, cada una con una historia que abarca entre 40 y 90 años. Estos objetos perdidos fueron elaborados originalmente por hábiles artesanos en el pasado y ahora han sido restaurados y revividos. Cada pieza es única, con su propia historia y carácter.

Al abastecernos directamente del pasado, respetamos las prácticas sostenibles, reducimos los residuos y preservamos el patrimonio. Cada artículo recuperado representa una artesanía que ha resistido el paso del tiempo, a la vez que contribuye a la preservación de la autenticidad.

We’re Ash and Mallika, partners in life and in this labor of love. Our story begins in New Delhi, India, where we grew up surrounded by homes filled with pieces that told stories.
In 2019, we moved to British Columbia, Canada, full of dreams and after 4 years we were ready to build our first home together. Like many, we set out to find furniture and décor that felt personal, items that meant something. But instead, we found sameness. Clean lines, mass production and beautiful things but nothing with a soul.
That longing took us back, back to the forgotten corners of our home country, to dusty storerooms and remote villages, where timeworn objects waited quietly to be seen again. A worn teak bench, a vintage dowry chest, a bowl smoothed by decades of hands. These weren’t just pieces of décor. They were echoes of the past - rich with patina, memory, and meaning.
And so, Project Kalaā was born - a celebration of craftsmanship, culture, and stories worth preserving.
We hand-select every piece, rescuing and restoring treasures that are 40 to 90 years old - each one carrying a history you can feel. Nothing is replicated. Nothing is mass-produced. Because to us, true luxury isn’t about trends or logos - it’s about legacy.
