Puka Pey Designs is a small business that has grown and evolved since 2009. I began to craft when my oldest daughter was born. I taught myself to crochet and spent the next several years with a hook and yarn in my hands. I've made hats, booties and blankets, but my favorite thing to make is small stuffed toys and lovies.
Throughout the years I began toying with the idea of creating crochet hooks. I bought some polymer clay and a few spare hooks and learned how to sculpt with clay. I've sold thousands of hooks and still love to make them. Every year I grow a bit more in my working knowledge and skill when creating hooks.
In 2018 I had the worst year of my life. It was devastating on every level. I put down my yarn and my clay and stopped crafting. I lost my love for it. In 2020 when the world stopped, I was forced out of my melancholy. My oldest daughter began having seizure out of the blue and we almost lost her twice. During that year we spent more time in doctors offices than ever before trying to find answers. What I found was a need for mask. So in April I bought a sewing machine, pulled up YouTube and taught myself how to sew.
My love for sewing was born out of a need rather than a want but it has shaped me into a new person. I've grown substantially since 2009 in more ways than just crafting. I've learned to be a better business woman and a better artist. While Puka Pey Designs has been my fallback love and has been sat on the back burner more than once, I hope that in the future I grow it into the amazing company that I envision. I will incorporate all of the crafting things that I love to do. And my shop will be diverse in crocheting and crocheting supplies as well as custom made bags and more. I hope to be able to rewrite this story in 10 years with even greater successes to tell. And I hope that you will be coming back time after time to see my journey as I continue to grow!
