Cool Arty Things for Cool People!
Hello to you all, and thanks for this chance to share my story!
I've recently moved away from making jewelry and into making paintings. I paint in diverse media, mostly watercolor, with various subjects including strange and sometimes abstract landscapes, animals, indigenous peoples, still lifes, and message-driven pieces.
My passion for creating was ignited after winning first prize for best Mother’s Day card in grade school. Tragically, my mother died of cancer soon after. But on her deathbed she encouraged me to continue creating. And I've honored her memory throughout my life by doing just that!
My weird ancestry comprises a long line of infamous eccentrics, including Lady Godiva, an Appalachian moonshiner, a medieval Irish warlord, one of the executed Salem witches, and individuals on both sides of the Hatfield-McCoy feud.
This inherited idiosyncrasy inspires the outsider, "raw," and/or "grunge" quality of much of my work, in which influences include the emotive brushstrokes of Van Gogh, the brilliant colors of French Expressionism, and the primitive innocence of mid-twentieth-century Yugoslavian naïve art.
By offering prints of my work here on Etsy, I hope to share my art with as many of you as possible. I invite you to experience the depth of history, emotion, and identity inherent in every piece. There’s also an occasional touch of whimsy--and weirdness!
A bit more about me:
I’m originally from Kentucky., I love bourbon, horses, and KFC cole slaw. And I have the good fortune to live in a lovingly restored pioneer’s cabin in the vibrant artists’ community of Sedona, Arizona, USA.
Thanks for reading my story.
I hope to share my work with you soon!
