Shipped very quick and very high quality! She went above and beyond and was so professional! An absolute pleasure to deal with. She even included a colouring page of Handy Manny because I told her that's what my son was dressing as for halloween. Such a sweet touch, Thank you again!

Green Couture for Kids
It all starts with a trip to the thrift store. I go scavenge for materials and come home with old hoodies and t-shirts. The best ones? T-shirts from events and campaigns, with the event logo and the word "VOLUNTEER" or something similar on the back. They're usually big, bright, and in a good condition because they've only been worn for a few days - and cheap because no one really wants to buy them...
All the shirts are treated to sanitize the fabric, and to kill off whatever might live in them... I don't want bedbugs in your home, or mine.
Everything is made from scratch. Those old t-shirts are cut up and reassembled, carefully working around stains or holes. (Sometimes you can see a glimpse of the fabric's previous like inside the seams or the hemlines.) The shirts are truly unique - even if I repeat a design it always ends up little different. This is real couture - handmade from start to finish, and a garment like no other.
The appliqués are created with scraps of material, from old projects (sometimes it's really worth it to save everything...) and from other garments here. I also use felt - I was lucky to find eco felt, made out of recycled plastic bottles!
Why clothing for kids? I'm a mother of a little boy. We know a few other families with little boys, and get a lot of hand-me-down clothing. And most of the loot is brown, dark blue and grey... But kids love colours. My kid loves colours! He has shirts and pants I've made for him in bright red, green and orange, and he wants to wear those more than any of the browns and greys (except for one grey shirt that has a fire truck on it).
My boy is also a great source of inspiration. Many of the designs come from his interests and things he's discovered, as well as from my friends' kids, as diverse in likes and dislikes as can be.
Why recycled materials? Because I believe that our kids deserve a planet to live on when they've grown up. Because it looks like the world they're going to inherit won't be an easy place to live. Because we, our generation, need to do our part.
If you visit the Sold Items section in my shop you can also see some knitted items and other things I've made over the years. I still love knitting, so while I don't have anything knitted in stock, I'd be happy to discuss a custom order. :)
The patterns for the clothing are drafted by me. There are a few exceptions where I've used a purchased pattern, with a permission from the designer. This information is always mentioned in the individual listings.
As a mother of a young child, sustainability is important to me. I use recycled materials as a bid to keep stuff out of the landfill. Sometimes there's a story behind the source of material, you can find those in the individual listings.
