I've always had a fascination for things gone by....old movies, mid-century mod, lace, fringe, heels and pearls. I'm certainly an old soul! At some point right after college, I thought I would like to learn how to knit. So about 15 years ago, my dear husband bought me a "How to Knit and Crochet for Dummies" book for my birthday. I sure tried to learn to knit and crochet, but I gave up right away! My stitches were too tight. I could only make parallelograms. I just couldn't figure it out! BUT I decided to give it another shot a year or so later, and it finally clicked. I was a terrible knitter (still am), but I got the hang of crochet. Yay!
I started making baby blankets for all of my nieces and nephews - and anyone who has crocheted a blanket before, knows how many hours that takes! So while I thoroughly enjoyed what I was doing and desperately wanted to make it into a career, I couldn't figure out how I could be even remotely successful. Either I'd have to charge $1,000 for a blanket or never get paid what I was worth.
Then my own babies came and their arrival pushed out all of the time I used to have for my hobbies. I'd make them a hat or two, but it was just too much! But they have grown some, and I get much more sleep than I used to. A winter or so ago, I thought I'd take up crochet again, and the thought of turning it into a business crossed my mind again.
And it occurred to me, that I didn't have to and shouldn't crochet blankets to sell. There were plenty of other projects that took less time. I would be able to crochet those little projects here and there as I had time, and could keep my day job. This business didn't need to be full-time. It could be as part-time as I wanted.
So I did some research, got the appropriate permits, and launched my business at the beginning of 2021. I still can't believe I'm an official business owner!
I'm not a full-time crafter, but every second I do get to work on this fun business is a second of pure enjoyment! My family has been so supportive, and I am truly blessed to get paid to do something I love to do.
