Handmade Eco Friendly Jewelry Inspired by Patterns in Nature
On a visit to Monterey Bay Aquarium in California, I bought a ring – a detailed whale that wrapped around my finger. Something inside me clicked and I thought - this is what I want to do. I enrolled in a metals class at a community college and found my passion. Many more metalsmith classes and workshops later, here I am.
Nature, the ocean, flowers, flowing shapes, metal fences, elaborate doors, door knockers and manhole covers influence my jewelry. Traveling opens up my mind to new ideas and jewelry designs. Photography is another one of my passions. I photograph objects and patterns I find interesting and then use these photos as an inspiration for my work.
I am obsessed with creating a beautiful and original pieces of jewelry that are very comfortable to wear. The most exciting thing to me is to pick up a piece of flat metal and create a three dimensional form. Craftsmanship is very important to me. Unique textures and subtle finishes are key features in my jewelry. One of my favorite ways to create textures is to etch patterns from my photographs into the metal.
Sustainable practices are always on my mind. I use recycled silver and source my stones from small responsible vendors. I strive to create as little impact as possible on our beautiful world.
