Printing Forevermore
I left my teaching job several years ago, without a specific goal in mind. With the free time I created for myself, I began engaging with a variety of materials. First, chalk (thanks to my sister sending me a box of colorful sticks in the mail), then crafting sleeves for records, then watercolors, and finally block-printing.
I'm also a DJ and I play soul music 45s. I was involved in making a poster for a soul night several years ago, but didn't know where to start, not having made something so big before. I went to the store and picked up a few tools to start block printing. I enjoy the hands-on process and especially the slight mystery of the inverted image-- similar to the feeling you get when sliding exposed photo paper into the developer solution. It's always a little different (and usually better) than you expect.
My immediate family is made up of artists. I've made things on and off since childhood and am excited to have a more "official" shop up and running!
I live in Minneapolis, where I'm from. Everything is created in my third-floor apartment. My roommate hasn't kicked me out for mess-making yet, so I'll keep working here (and scrubbing ink off the floor as needed).
