There's Beauty in the Breaking
Welcome and thank you for viewing my joyfully ratty art!
I first began making these eggs as therapy. Many people know stress, loss, pain, and sadness that feels like it could break us. We can almost feel the cracks forming.
There’s a long-standing tradition in Japanese culture of repairing broken things. Not just fixing them, but creating something new and uniquely beautiful. Kintsugi.
If pottery is broken here in the US, we often throw it out. If we glue it, it’s never as good. It loses value. Kintsugi not only repairs broken pieces, it highlights and emphasizes the breaks with gold. It actually increases in value because it has become a unique piece of art.
To me, a Kintsugi Egg is a reminder that the cracks are what makes us US. We’re all unique, shaped by our life experiences. We’re strong. We’re resilient. We won’t be shattered, we won’t be tossed aside. We are more valuable because we have been broken and put back together again.
I make each egg and I love personalizations and customizations to match individual stories. I want buyers and recipients to love what they receive.
A portion of the proceeds from each sale are donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Please send me names, I would love to make my monthly donation in someone else’s honor.
