Out of a love of collecting vintage china, my obsession for creating mosaics began.
Collecting vintage china began when I was a teenager. I began my obsession with the delicate, d designs that decorate vintage china.
Creating mosaics began for me years ago, after I picked up a craft book about making "crazy mosaics". One evening years ago, I was walking my dog, when I spotted a wooden framed mirror which a neighbor had put out on a curb next to trash cans. That mirror became my first mosaic project, by adding a mosaic design of broken china on the frame that surrounded the mirror.
After that project, everything I saw seemed to have the potential to become a mosaic. It took several years for my mosaics to evolve, with trial and error. The day that I found a box of assorted vintage pharmacy bottles at a yard sale, gave me the idea to create mosaic bud vases.
My mosaic designs are not usually planned or drawn out. I am often guided by an object that I want to incorporate into the mosaic. All of my mosaics incorporate vintage elements, such as old bottles, skeleton keys, distressed hooks, and chains. Most of the materials that I use to create my mosaics are recycled and repurposed.
I live in the beautiful Hudson Valley NY, where the scenery is breathtaking in any season.
When I am not making mosaics, I am going to yard sales, junk shops, and flea markets, searching for the bits and pieces to be used in my mosaics.
When I am not making mosaics, I am working full-time as a RN, and dreaming about my next mosaic project.
