The Owner
Hi, my name is Josh and I am the owner of Reedcrest. I'm currently finishing my undergrad in Biology though I plan to do master's work in Bassoon Performance. It might be odd to think that a biologist is making reeds but fret not. I began playing nine years ago and began reed making eight years ago. My academic career began at Carnegie Mellon in Bassoon Performance. I worked hard, but I learned that bassoon wasn't meant to be my full-time job (or so I thought then...) so I transferred schools and began my degree in Biology. A background in Biology has given me the tools to approach reed making scientifically. I have studied many aspects of reed making in detail including the growth of Arundo donax to the physics of reeds. The research has inspired me to apply what I've learned and share it with the larger bassoon community. I believe that having access to high-quality bassoon reeds is important for bassoonists to flourish.
