History buffs have a way of falling in to the past.
Believe it or not, I got into perfume making by way of short stays or underwear. I took a simplified corset making class in northern VA and learned how during the late 18th and 19th century, people went back to their natural form and ditched the boned rib crushing corset. Much less baggage between the skin and outer garments, much less stink and much more refinement. Started wondering what kind of perfume refined folks wore and got hooked in their efforts. Well, during the 18th and 19th century, there wasn’t much difference between men’s and women’s perfumes. It was plainly androgynous.

History notes: Perfumery or the art of making perfumes began in Mesopotamia, Asia and Egypt and passed through Romans and Arabic influence till it came to Europe with the first modern perfume made in 1370 Hungary. Renaissance Italy improved it and France added its sophistication till it comes to Regency era (1795 - 1837) England.

This is where it went crazy both for them and me.
Perfumes of the Jane Austen Era were alcohol-based, oil-based, water-based and wax-based. They sure liked their perfumes! I make the oil based ones that are traditional and would have been applied from a bottle using a dauber or a fingertip.

But this is the 21st century. Why bother dabbing when you can spray it. So I packaged these regency era recipes in pretty spray bottles but without the alcohol and they are still applicable. So go ahead, spritz yourself and smell the history.
