Retro-Inspired & Bespoke Furniture
I’m Ryan, the designer and maker behind Remade Retro.
Before furniture, my creative life began in music. As part of Man Without Country, I signed with a major publishing company in my early twenties — this led me on a journey from gigging empty rooms to collaborating with artists I’d grown up listening to.
After starting a family that same creative mindset eventually found its way into furniture.
It started during lockdown with a 1960s Jentique sideboard that I planned to restore for my studio — sanding it back, refinishing it and bringing it back into use. The transformation completely changed how I saw furniture; not just as something functional, but something that could be reworked and refined.
What began as restoration quickly grew into something more.
I started sharing pieces online and taking on commissions, working with clients across the UK and eventually internationally. Over time, the work naturally evolved into designing and building original pieces — moving beyond restoration into something more considered and personal.
Today, I specialise in handcrafted secretary desks — designed to create a dedicated workspace when needed, and to close away cleanly when not. Each piece is made to order, with a focus on thoughtful design, durable materials and long-term use. The work draws on mid-century influences, reinterpreted into clean, practical designs.
In 2022, I appeared on BBC One’s Make It At Market, working alongside other makers to develop the business further. That experience helped shape the direction of Remade Retro as it is today.
