RetroDelia - where colour meets style.
When I was at University in the 1980s, my friends and I always went shopping in charity shops (or thrift stores as they are called in the States) for our clothes or items to decorate our rooms.
We were drawn to the style and design of items from the 1950s and 1960s. The dresses were made of amazing colourful material, a pair of gloves with psychedelic swirls was like nothing that was for sale in the high street stores, a fruit bowl with an atomic design was just perfect for our first home from home.
Now it seems like things have gone full circle. The 1980s are "in", are "vintage" for young people today. My friends and I would never have imagined that we may have been wearing styles for a future generation to pick up on.
Maybe each generation will always have a love for the past, a need to try and re-create its childhood and times gone-by. Seeing a colourful Pyrex mixing bowl may evoke the memory of helping Grandma to bake a cake, an old game of snakes and ladders may make us recall fun times with family and friends.
As times change so do colours and styles. At RetroDelia we bring you items full of colour and charm to evoke the style and flair of the mid 20th Century. German art pottery, Scandinavian textiles, Staffordshire mugs, classic Penguin novels, collectible Matchbox cars and much more besides. Please take a look and we hope you enjoy your visit.
