I would like to say that I am very proud to have been choosen among one of EtsysMy life is strongly influenced by my crazy family, as well as dear friends. My grandpa was a furniture artisan. Mom is an artist and dad is a builder.
These creative traits carried on to my Aunt, Sister and myself in various ways. I became an Art Educator after what felt to me, an epiphany. I never thought I would be an educator let alone an Art Educator. In the beginning I studied Fashion Design, Criminal Justice, English/Creative Writing and Psychology. I am "this close," to having many degrees. But nothing felt right.
When I went back to college again...never wanting to be a career student, I finally majored in art, specifically photography. Always actively involved in art, I never thought I could make a career from it. However, I was on my way. Sadly after my second term back, I had a serious body burn from an allergic reaction to penicillin. I survived something un-survivable. I miraculously returned to college and began to involve myself in other fine arts. When I realized what the heck am I going to do with a BFA? And it just HIT me-the epiphany-I'm going to be an Art Teacher. Keeping up with my major in Fine Arts I also began majors in Education and Art History. Sadly only for a short time.
Other things in life happened. I got married and such but still desired to get that degree At 25 I returned to college once again. I practically had to start over with many of my subjects. I commuted 180 miles there and back for over five yeas. But I did it. I actually earned my degree in Art Education. More like it, I worked my derrière off. So to speak.
I loved teaching. I taught Alternative and HS, Art Ed, Pre K. Adults, Disabled then happily to K-5. I am not sure who it was more magical for, the kids or me. But I did so love it. Most likely the most important and privileged aspect of my life. After only having the privilege for a much shorter time than planned, I was hit by car and that pretty much destroyed my career and life for a long time. I was basically crippled and bed ridden for a very long time. I developed a rare chronic pain condition of the nervous system, commonly called RSD or CRPS. (you can google for more info)
Many trials and tribulations for years, I finally had a pain pump implanted and I began to come a bit more alive again. It has been a long road. I am still in pain 24/7 even with the help of the pump. But I function now, More or less : D. Gardening became not only a way of becoming physically more active, but my art. I am engrossed in it as much as I can be physically. However, I live in a State where it is darn cold for at least 7 months of the year and need more than 3 or 4 months of feeling like a somewhat real person and ALIVE.
I need more than that. I began to create again, sort of. I am fixing up my home. Decorating and have been going through all of the things that had been precious to me. They still are. But what to do with them? I will always have my memories. The "things" just stayed in storage as I had no room for them.
I began to sell on a free site and my family began to give me more thing as I was doing pretty well. However, having strangers come to your home and going though your belongings just did not feel good for me. One day, not so long ago, I discovered Etsy. I have no idea how, and no idea why I did not know of it before.
The rest,I suppose is history. And, the future...
