Just received - very nice craftsmanship - I sent a pretty complex design, and they made it work - it looks awesome, and in plenty of time for the event - thanks!

About

Falling into a Rhythm

I've been working metal since I was 15. That was in 2000. I started with really fine detail. My dad owns a dental lab (Cerama-Dent) in Michigan and gave me a job as a metal finisher. I polished gold crowns and drew anatomy into metal teeth. I have a knack for detail. I made them shine like the sun. I learned the value of the dexterity my two hands possessed. He taught me to work hard, keep my head down, focus on the fine detail and to be proud of my work, that if you can make something others can't with your own two hands, you are valuable to society. That creates independence and success. I worked for him for about 5 years and was then offered a job at the Alchemist Sculpture Foundry. There I did much of the same thing but on a much larger scale. Instead of teeth, I worked on ten foot statues of sports figures for baseball stadiums and hockey arenas. I even got to be a part of the creation of the Gordy Howe statue For the Red Wings that's now on display at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. This job was amazing. Not only did I learn to weld, I learned of the forgiveness found in metal. If you take too much, you can add more and go at it again, unlike carpentry where you HAVE to measure twice and cut once, or you'll need to start all over from the beginning. I fell in love with metal working, art, creativity. I worked there for a few years and then began exploring other fields. I was a bike mechanic, a barista, a doughnut maker. I did some commercial fishing in Alaska. All the while realizing more and more that I needed to get back to my roots. Metal. Cutting, grinding, sanding, welding, polishing and repeat... over and over again. Metal working is hard work but the product you get to hold in your hands when a piece is completed is monumental almost every time. So... I started Rhythmic Metal. There were definitely challenges in being a new business owner and getting things to really take off. Plenty of time put in. Money saved for tools and materials. It was a slow start, but people responded well to some of my early work. At this point in time I've probably made somewhere around 10,000 belt buckles and distributed them all around the world. Some are in boutiques. Some were direct sales. Custom orders, birthday gifts, wedding gifts, catalogue supply, many styles, and many colors. Some unique, some in large batches. I've got my system. I keep my head down. I work hard and get through each batch one step at a time. Streamlined. Handmade is handmade and true craftsmanship shines through every time. My dad taught me a pretty good work ethic. I'm not gonna waste it. I'll be making new and improved items and pieces of art probably until my hands are good and broken.

I love working on custom projects so if you have an idea you'd like to see come to life, please don't hesitate to contact me. I have a much larger skill set with metal working than shown by only my current items for sale. I'd love to hear what you've got in mind!

My inspiration comes from a desire to create the life I want to live- making art and working for myself. I live to work hard, to work with my hands, and to be productive. I love taking the old and turning it into the new. Something that will last...
