Metal Clay and Enamel Jewelry
I work in silver, copper and bronze metal clay and vitreous enamel. Please look through my shop for pendants, necklaces and earrings taking the form of delightful little birds, flowers and animals. Many pieces also feature the moon and stars.
Everything starts out as a lump of metal clay!
I roll, cut, sculpt and hand build the clay into my desired shapes. Then I join the pieces, carve and sand. At this point the metal clay goes into the kiln and the binder burns away leaving solid metal. Then I tumble and grind until pieces are ready for enamel or oxidizing.
The enamel is vitreous - it is powdered glass that is kiln-fired until it melts, flows, and then hardens to a smooth coating on the metal. All of the enamels I use are lead free.
