Bags of Unique Gifts and Smiles
I started as Rollerdog Design in 2016 after spending 23 years as a freelance illustrator and designer. During this time I had some great experiences such as creating the Hotel Chocolat children's range and illustrating a range of books for Munch Bunch, but I really wanted to spend more time working on my own designs.
So I began the process of working on the patterns and designs and then choosing which products to feature them on. My next job was to find someone who could sew (my sewing still leaves a lot to be desired. Picture the scene: I'm sewing a bag's hem painstakingly neatly... only to find I've sewn it to my own skirt).
Seeing your designs and patterns come to life and printed onto actual products for the first time is so cool. Because of the fabulous printing technology that exists, I can have an idea and see it as a real product within a week... it's so exciting!
My inspirations come largely from the natural world: its colours, shapes and infinite beauty. There's a cherry tree outside the window which regularly has 5 or 6 different types of colourful little birds hopping about from branch to branch and I love animals and the outdoors. I'm also constantly inspired by the talent of fellow creatives: just scrolling down my Instagram feed fills me with awe at the amazing things being created all over the world, all the time.
On a final note, a lot of people ask, why "Rollerdog?" The simple answer is, I love dogs (especially the whippetty greyhound types) and I also love rollerskating! :)
