Frequently asked questions
How Do I Keep My Jewelry Clean and Bright?
I coat all my pieces with a microcrystalline wax polish that helps preserve the original finish of the metal. It protects the jewelry from elements like water, oxygen, and the oils on our skin which can discolor metal. That being said, most metals will eventually tarnish. The best way to keep jewelry looking bright and new is to keep it dry, avoid excessive handling, and to store it well. I recommend keeping your jewelry in a ziploc bag and out of the light for maximum care.
Cleaning methods will vary from piece to piece depending on materials and finish. If you have a question about caring for a specific piece, please send me a message!
What Materials Do You Use?
I use a range of materials! For metals, I most commonly use silver filled wire and brass, but I also work in copper and sterling silver, and I use gold filled wire for gold tone earwires.
Silver and gold filled wire is wire made with a thick layer of silver or gold bonded to a core of brass or copper. It is more cost efficient than solid silver or gold, but it will not flake or wear off like plated wire will.
The beads I use are made from semi-precious stones and minerals. When possible, I like to use stones that have not been dyed--the colors that nature gives us are so incredible on their own! I never use glass or plastic substitutes without expressly stating so.
