The wonderful process of creating premium quality kits for you to bake at home
Hello friend! I'm Amy. I was partly born—partly married—into a unique Scandinavian tradition of saying *“I love you”* through delicious baking. My grandparents were Swedish American, and as life would have it, I fell in love with and married into a Finnish family. After raising my children and operating first a retail bakery and then a wholesale bakery, I found myself wanting a slower pace… but I also wanted to keep baking and sharing what I love.
Rulla Pulla originally began as a mail-order bakery, sending fresh-baked goodness across the country and even around the world. But it always broke my heart a little to package something warm, fragrant, and lovingly crafted, knowing it would be tossed and bumped around in a box for days before reaching someone’s home. I longed for people to be able to create that magic themselves—to see how easy it really was and how capable they truly were. If only I could go to each person’s kitchen with the same premium ingredients and the generations-old recipes I used, and teach them the simple techniques passed down to me. I knew that quiet ability within them could be awakened!
So I became determined to make home baking easy, accessible, empowering, AND delicious. The solution was a do-it-yourself kit—a kit that was absolutely foolproof. I started with my tried-and-true family recipes, gathered the same premium ingredients I used in my bakery, and combined them with the experience I’d gained over 30 years of baking and teaching. I tested and retested, gave away dozens, and gathered all the feedback I could. My goal was for someone with ZERO experience—even a child—to be able to use a kit and have guaranteed success. And more importantly, I wanted every single person to walk away with confidence and excitement to keep baking and sharing.
Finally, in October 2019, the first kit was perfected, and Rulla Pulla launched its DIY Cardamom Braid Kit. I encouraged, gifted, and even begged people to try it. I knew they could do it, even when they weren’t sure themselves. When COVID hit in March 2020 and shipping baked goods became too difficult, Rulla Pulla turned off the ovens for the last time and stopped mailing baked items. Since then, I’ve poured my energy into creating many more delicious, easy-to-use DIY kits. And the rest, as they say, is history!
I’m inspired every day by my wonderful family, who loves me no matter what, and by the kind, generous people who’ve shared their tender stories of “pulla memories.” The overwhelming amount of kind feedback and triumphant “I did it!!” messages warm my heart and fuel my passion.
