¡Hola! Soy Angie y he amado la ciencia y ser astuta desde que tengo memoria. Decoré pasteles en la escuela secundaria y la universidad, pero dejé la artesanía después de graduarme y obtuve mi primer trabajo real como terapeuta ocupacional pediátrico. Mirando hacia atrás ahora, probablemente se deba a que esa carrera me ofreció mucho espacio creativo para jugar, resolver problemas y realmente marcar la diferencia en las familias con las que estaba trabajando.

Avanzamos unos años y entré en la fase de elaboración de bebés. -¡Todos! ¡Puedo crear algunos niños lindos! - Dejé atrás el "trabajo real" para quedarme en casa con mi mayor, y no he vuelto. Empecé a coser ropa para ella, y ella la ama tanto que no puedo parar. Estaba disfrutando creando para ella, pero todavía sentía que podía contribuir más a nuestra familia.

Finalmente, después de muchas oraciones, y mucha más investigación de la que debo admitir también, nació STEM Stitchery. El objetivo número uno es proporcionar ropa inspirada en la ciencia, la tecnología, la ingeniería y las matemáticas para las niñas que sea divertida de usar. ¿A quién no le gusta un buen giro y bolsillos?

Nuestra hipótesis en STEM Stitchery es: si las niñas usan ropa inspirada en STEM, seguirán conversaciones intelectuales. La investigación muestra diferencias asombrosas en la forma en que los niños y niñas jóvenes son abordados por extraños. Los niños a menudo reciben preguntas sobre sus intereses, y a las niñas se les dice lo lindas o bonitas que se ven. Estamos buscando cambiar este patrón, y mi pequeño amante de STEM y yo lideraremos el camino.

Hi! I’m Angie and have loved science and being crafty as long as I can remember. I decorated cakes in high school and college, but quit crafting after I graduated and got my first real grown up job as a pediatric occupational therapist. Looking back now, it’s probably because that career offered me so much creative space to play, problem solve, and truly make a difference to the families I was working with.

Fast forward a few years and I entered the baby crafting phase. -Y’all! I can create some cute kids! - I left the “real job” behind to stay home with my oldest, and I haven’t gone back. I starting sewing clothes for her, and she loves them so much I can’t stop. I was enjoying creating for her, but I still felt like I could contribute more to our family.

Finally after many prayers, and way more research than I should admit too, STEM Stitchery was born. The number one objective is to provide science, technology, engineering, and math inspired clothing for girls that is fun to wear. Who doesn’t love a good twirl & pockets?

Our hypothesis at STEM Stitchery is: If girls wear STEM inspired clothing, intellectual conversations will follow. The research shows astonishing differences in how young boys & girls are addressed by strangers. Boys often receive questions about their interests, and girls are told how cute or pretty they look. We are looking to change this pattern, and my little STEM lover and I will lead the way.
