Africa. In our image. In our language. In our voice.
Salone Pikin was born from a simple idea: to celebrate African heritage through the images, words and expressions that make us who we are.
Our journey begins in Sierra Leone — Salone.
For Sierra Leoneans, our languages and expressions are part of our identity. A few words in Krio, Mende, Temne or Limba can instantly remind us of home, family, childhood, friendship and the unmistakable humour of Salone people.
Salone Pikin brings those memories and that identity into contemporary designs that can be worn, carried, displayed and shared.
But Salone Pikin is only the beginning.
Africa is a continent of extraordinary cultures and languages, and our vision is to build collections celebrating communities across East, West, North, South, and Central Africa.
As the collection grows, our designs will draw inspiration from countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania and many more — combining distinctive artwork with words and expressions from the languages spoken there.
A Nigerian design might speak in Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa.
A Ghanaian design might carry an expression in Twi, Fante or Ewe.
A Sierra Leonean design might make another Salone person smile before they have even finished reading the words.
Because sometimes a phrase doesn't need explaining.
If you know, you know.
Our aim isn't simply to put African symbols on products.
It is to create designs that feel African — designs that recognise the humour, confidence, wisdom, affection and personality contained in the way we speak to one another.
For Africans at home, they are a celebration of identity.
For Africans in the diaspora, they can be a little piece of home.
For children and grandchildren growing up far from the countries their families came from, they can be a conversation about heritage.
And for friends of Africa, they are an invitation to discover the languages and cultures behind the designs.
From Freetown to Lagos. Accra to Nairobi. Johannesburg to Addis Ababa. Dakar to Cairo.
Different countries.
Different cultures.
Different languages.
One extraordinary continent.
Salone Pikin — Wear the Culture. Speak the Language. Represent Home.
